Mission

As far as I can tell and as far as I am planning my primary professional occupation will be accounting. I plan to graduate with a degree in Business Accounting and move on to get my CPA certification.

I feel strongly about this occupation because I have excelled in the subject and it is something I have grown passionate about. I started of college wanting to go into the medical field, studying Biological Science. As I studied this for two years, I began to dislike what I was doing and after completing and internship in a hospital shadowing doctors and other healthcare professionals I realized it was not what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I was no longer passionate about this career path. At that point in my life I felt lost and confused. It was frustrating to invest so much time into a subject only to find out it was not what I wanted. The following semester as I explored what I wanted to do and what I was good at, I had my first accounting class and I fell in love. I have always loved numbers and math, and accounting was something so new and interesting to me. Most people would think it was tedious and boring, but I really enjoyed the class. It was like a puzzle, and I did really well in the class. From there I decided to pursue that route and took more business and accounting classes. Now, year and a half later, I have grown to really love accounting. I love the way it is like some sort of mystic incarnation where your debits must equal your credits and the balance sheet must balance. It’s mad!

As I have said before, my parents faced some financial difficulties and experiencing the instability they went through with money made me not want to experience that as an adult. I think financial security and wisdom is something that all people should have and I would like to help facilitate that.

I have strong convictions to look out for the interest of others and help others achieve financial success. My mission is to gain experience in this field—to lean and grow and to share the knowledge I gain. I think that if people are educated and understand how finance works, they would be able to make smarter decisions.

As I think about my mission and my calling, it is amazing to see how different these desires are than those I imagined for myself as a child. I am grateful that I have a passion for accounting and I hope to help others with what I learn as well. How about you? Are you happy with the career you are pursuing? If not, have you explored your options?
